The Tasmanian Trail is managed completely by volunteers, and the Tasmanian Trail team is looking for additional helpers with specific abilities and interests to advise and help it provide a first class recreational trail.
Positions
Executive Officer
Interested in proving leadership in the management of Tasmania's longest multi-use trail?
This voluntary role is perfectly suited to a retired executive wanting to contribute their professional capabilities in a meaningful way.
Please note, the Tasmanian Trail Management Committee would support the successful applicant to source funding to allow this role to transition from voluntary to paid.
You will have the opportunity to use your initiative to help coordinate, promote and manage the Tasmanian Trail. You will be volunteering collaboratively with an enthusiastic team of volunteers within the Tasmanian Trail Association to liaise with relevant government agencies, corporate and community groups, landowners and individuals. You will also be providing guidance to volunteers working on the Trail, promoting the Trail through various mediums and identifying revenue raising opportunities.
The applicant should have relevant experience in recreational planning and land management.
It would be advantageous for applicants to hold:
- A high level of verbal and written communication skills
- Strong leadership skills and experience with volunteers
- Experience in promotion and/or fundraising
The Executive Officer will receive support and direction from the Management Committee. Formal meetings of the Committee are held four times per annum. A high level of independence and initiative will be valued. This role is approximately 1-2 days per week.
The Tasmanian Trail's existence today is the result of a dynamic partnership between volunteer groups, private landowners, public agencies and the State and Federal Governments and is a growing, living thing. Its ongoing life depends on the care provided by volunteers and on the extent to which their support can be kept alive in workable management partnerships.

Secretary (At present applicant under consideration)
Interested in participating in the management of Tasmania's longest multi-use trail?
This voluntary role is perfectly suited to a person with secretarial skills wanting to contribute in a meaningful way, or a young leader looking for an opportunity to gain invaluable secretarial experience.
The role deals with the administrative management of the Tasmanian Trail. You will be volunteering collaboratively with an enthusiastic team of volunteers within the Tasmanian Trail Association to ensure the successful running of the Association's activities. You would be encouraged to join in with activities and become familiar with the Trail and the management practices and policies.
It would be advantageous for applicants to hold:
- Relevant experience in secretarial duties
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong leadership skills
The Secretary works to the Executive Officer and attends committee meetings which are held approximately four times per annum at various locations along the Trail. Duties are at spasmodic times and more prevalent around the meeting times, averaging a few hours a week. Initiative will be valued.

Fund Raising Coordinator
If you have some experience in exploiting fundraising opportunities you could have the satisfaction of helping in the development of the Tasmanian Trail to make it a world class recreational destination.
At present the Tasmanian Trail Association Inc. relies on membership fees, donations and fundraising events and the Tasmanian Trail team would welcome you joining in to progress its aim to upgrade the faciities along the Trail and develop further infrastructure for the benefit of users.
The encumbant of this position would be responsible for the management of fundraising opportunities from the time of the initial application to acquittal.
It is envisaged that the Fund Raising Coordinator would also consider other ways of raising funds and make recommendations to the Committee.
Area Coordinators – Derwent Valley
Want to make a difference? Area Coordinators are in the perfect position to impliment improvements to the Tasmanian Trail whether they be better a route, or new or improved facilities. Generally they live in the area and have a superior repore with the community and an excellent knowledge of the Trail. They are also likely to meet users of the Trail and discover what they believe would improve the trail experience.
The Tasmanian Trail is divided into four areas for management purposes: North, Central Plateau, Derwent Valley and Huon. An Area Coordinator, with the assistance of a small team, is responsible for the management of each area.
An Area Coordinator would assist users of the Trail and deal with any matter that is brought to their notice. This may require arranging working bees to replace Trail markers and signs or to repair damage caused by flood, bushfires or otherwise. A high level of initiative is desirable.
The Area Coordinator will generally represent the Association in the regional area by liaising with land owners that provide their land for the Trail as well as with local councils and government instrumentalities on matters of mutual interest.
Assistants to Area Coordinators – all areas
Do you like the outdoors and are you handy with your hands? Do you enjoy completing a project and sitting back and be pleased with the result? This position would provide you with this opportunity.
You would work closely with and assist the Area Coordinators in the management of the Tasmanian Trail within a section of the Trail in or near the area you live. You will meet users of the Trail and offer advice and assistiance if required and report any suggestion users may have or problem that is brought to your notice. You may participate in working bees, which could involve the erection of new facilities, the replacement of Trail markers and signs or repair to damage caused by flood, bushfires or otherwise.
The Trail is divided into 4 areas for management purposes: North, Central Plateau, Derwent Valley and Huon. A small team is allocated to each area. Subject to local conditions and negotiation, Assistants could range over their respective area or be delegated a smaller section of the Trail close to their residence.
