The Tasmanian Trail Guidebook is an essential part of enjoying the Tasmanian Trail. It gives detailed directions and other information and should be studied before setting out. It is only available to Tasmanian Trail members who can download it when logged into the website. Click on the Membership and Guidebook buttons on the right for more information.
Parts of the Trail are not for the inexperienced or the faint hearted as some difficult sections will be experienced. The surface of the pathway is varied with most of the Trail on some form of made up road but there are sections that may be difficult where they cross virgin bush, farm land and eroded stock routes. If attempting the whole Trail two rivers need to be crossed and both can be impassable after rain.
Some preparation and planning is needed and the guidebook should be studied and a decision made well in advance as to whether you wish to obtain a key to gates and toilets (see button to the right). Overnight stops should be predetermined. If commercial venues are to be used, they should be booked in advance. With careful planning a bike rider can spend each night in a bed.
The Trail frequently passes through or nearby towns and stores can be obtained along the way but the choice of goods will be limited in some areas.
Additional information will be found through links from this page and it is recommended that all be visited. By hovering over the camp and attraction icons on the maps below further information will be displayed.
