The Tasmanian Trail Guidebook gives walkers, mountain bike riders and horse riders all the information required to travel all or part of the Trail. The Tasmanian Trail Guidebook is in its 2nd edition and is available at most equestrian, bike and outdoor shops as well as book stores and other outlets throughout Tasmania at the moderate price of $28.00. Unfortunately, the guidebook is at present out of print but arrangements are in hand for a resupply. Watch this space for an update.
Tasmanian Trail Guide Book
The Tasmanian Trail Guidebook is divided into five sections to correspond to the nature of the land through which the Trail traverses. Each section has been further divided into stages which average 30 km in length. At the end of each stage a campsite has been provided. The Guide Book is divided into five parts:
- Part One: Planning a Trip on the Tasmanian Trail. Information about planning a trip on the Tasmanian Trail and using it wisely and safely is provided. A general code of conduct and guidelines for using the Trail are included, but a detailed code of conduct for individual user groups is detailed in Part Three if you are unsure of the generally accepted behaviour for particular user groups on multiple-use trails.
- Part Two: Notes and Maps. Each section provides an introduction to the regions along the Trail and a brief summary of the main townships and facilities. Each stage is presented as a journey from one campsite to the next and includes detailed trail notes and maps. The maps are accurate at the time of printing but may require updating as features on the Trail can change (see the Amendment page). For extra information about townships, attractions and facilities along the Trail, take along a copy of Tasmania: a visitor's guide or Travelways, both excellent guides available at most Tasmanian tourist information centres. Also, visit www.discovertasmania.com.au and click on 'where to stay' for accommodation opportunities along the Trail. A description of how to use the Trail Notes can be found on page 8.
- Part Three: Further Information. Information about relevant contacts for more information is provided.
- Part Four: Codes of Conduct for Individual User Groups. Horse riders, mountain bike riders and bush walkers all receive guidance on conditions, general conduct and specific items to take along. Included are comprehensive checklists and guides for horse riders, mountain bike riders and bushwalkers.
- Part Five: Track Report Card, Membership Application, Key Request Form and Order for Merchandise. A Membership Application has been provided along with a Track Report Card if you are interested in providing your feedback or in joining the Tasmanian Trail Association. A form for ordering a Trail key is included together with an order form for Trail badges and other merchandise.
